DNA Structure and Function
Structure: DNA is shaped in a double helix. This means that it has two, twisted strands. The molecules that make up DNA are called nucleotides. Each nucleotide is made up of a deoxyribose sugar, phosphate group, and nitrogenous base. The nitrogenous bases in DNA are adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine. Chromosomes are made of long strands of DNA. Each chromosome consists of genes.
Function: The purpose of DNA is to create protein that is useful to the body. The DNA carries the genetic instructions.
Name: DNA stands for deoxyribose nucleic acid.
Location: DNA is located in the nucleus of the cell.
